Mona Jean Cedar’s first appearance with Rudy Perez featured her sign language (ASL – American Sign Language) that Rudy abstracted for her portrayal of Ruth St. Denis as a young girl in his production “The Dance Crazy Kid from New Jersy Meets Hofmenstal.” She was also honored to do a duet with Rudy - “Feelings for Open Spaces; None for Crowded Areas”. Presently she has her own dance company, Pas d’ASL, in which she continues to choreograph with ASL and sign languages from different countires with the circuit bent electronic music of her husband, Jeff Boynton, who composed music for several of Rudy’s dances: “Double Play”, “The Art of Performmance” and “A Room with a View…” Ms. Cedar has an AA in Dance, an AS in ASL Interpreting and a BA in Deaf Studies with a Performance Focus. Professionally, she’s danced with Collage Dance Theater, taught dance to disabled dancers through Zina Bethune’s Dance Outreace and is an RID certified freelance ASL community interpreter. Creatively, she mixes her ASL with Spoken Word Poetry and plays with Slam Poets. Her future dreams are to choreograph with every signed language in the world….And she misses Rudy very much.
